The Lakota Language
Also known as Lakhota, Teton, or Teton Sioux, Lakota is a dialect spoken by a subset of the Sioux tribes of the Great Plains.
It represents one of the largest Native American language speech communities in the United States.
Being very similar to other sioux dialects (Dakota), most Lakota and Dakota Indians can understand eachother just as most English-speaking Americans can understand folks from Britain.
Creation of the Lakota
Lakota are an Eagle Nation; descendants of a massive spotted eagle (Wanblee Galeshka) and one beautiful girl he saved to survive the Great Flood. According to Lame Deer, as all early humans were being swept away from a hill where they tried to escape the surging waves, Wanblee flew down, let her hold his feet, and took her to his nest atop a tree standing above the flood on the highest peak. It was a sheer pinnacle that no human could reach and soon the only spot remaining above water. She bore him twins; a boy and a girl. And when the waters declined and receded, Wanblee returned the mother and children to Earth. The eagle is the Great Spirits Messenger; a wise and great warrior. This is why Lakota wear the eagle plume, and are a great people.
