Our purpose in offering this award program is to promote excellence in a healthy, family-friendly internet.
- Excellence. The movie Idiocracy sums up our concerns pretty well. In the movie, an average man" from our time becomes a test subject for a hibernation program and wakes up 500 years later where he is then the most intelligent person alive. Many examples in the movie hit disturbingly close to home: continually lowering standards in school to match their declining performance, erosion of language, etc. For example in the US, the California Department of Educations Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Reports show entire groups state-wide failing their Percent Proficient Annual Measurable Objectives. We notice an alarming general devolution in society and wish to become a force acting against it by rewarding Webmasters who learn and apply what theyve learned, going above and beyond to make our world a better place.
- Healthy. Here, contemporary societal examples that concern us include gangs, increased acceptance toward drug use, violent crime, etc. We wish to support Webmasters who are doing something constructive with their time and talents rather than destroying our environment and culture through terror, riots, harassment, painting graffiti around grocery store gas stations, and so on. Therefore we have a strong preference for sites that build and teach rather than just entertain.
- Family-Friendly. Of course even if a site teaches, it must be of a positive, family-friendly nature. Recent internet explosion of education on how to make pipe bombs, or chloroform isnt exactly what were looking for. Expected consequences of the training must also be constructive.
